The Quilt Museum and Gallery in York is travelling to Birmingham this year to host a mini exhibition of quilts made from Turkey Red fabric. The exhibition celebrates a fascinating period of Scotland’s textile history when the Vale of Leven in Scotland was once the centre of a flourishing textile industry.

See examples of Turkey Red fabric in five quilts from as early as the mid 19th century including a Four Baskets quilt, a Sanderson Star Quilt, a Sawtooth Strippy Quilt, a Red and White Log Cabin quilt and an appliquéd quilt in ochre and red.

The quilts on display have retained the rich, vivid red associated with the Turkey Red dyeing process and this is a wonderful opportunity to see how this fabric has been used to great effect in these traditional quilt designs. Remember to stop by Stand A35 when visiting the show!
