We were keen to include this book in the magazine as it shows all sorts of tips and techniques for constructing handbags. Once you know the basics you can easily incorporate patchwork and quilted panels into your own designs. Lisa Lam runs a very successful blog at www.u-handbag.typepad.com and has passed on her passion for bag making in this comprehensive book. We all know that three-dimensional objects aren’t always straightforward to construct but Lisa takes us on a well illustrated, step by step journey showing us that once you understand the anatomy of a handbag and the different techniques for creating pockets, fastenings, linings and handles then the processes can be mastered. She gives detailed advice on use of fabrics, interfacings and how to approach pattern adaptation, and a full size fold out pattern sheet is included. Her eight lovely projects demonstrate all the techniques that she outlines and, being a bit of a bag fanatic myself, I am dying to jump in and have a go. As Amy Butler’s foreword suggests, this book has got to be a staple for anyone who love bags!
