Fran says, "Thank you for the wonderful news about winning 'Stash Magic'.
I have had an interest in patchwork since my primary school days but with university studies and then a busy career and also a family to consider I wasn't able to devote much time to it. I have gradually increased my stash, saving the left overs from sewing projects over the years and have carefully moved it all at each change of address and promised myself that one day I would take up the challenge again.
A visit to America in 1999 rekindled my enthusiasm but I had to be content with reading and planning rather than sewing. My oldest daughter is now 24 and also bitten by the patchwork and quilting bug so we have been visiting exhibitions and shops and adding even more to the stash. In the last 2 months I have reduced my working hours and at last started to decide on the first projects.
I am drawn to some of the large quilt patterns but have decided that the first few things need to be a bit smaller to get me back into it with some quick results while I improve my technique. All my early efforts had been with paper piecing, so I am looking forward to using the sewing machine and trying out different things.
The website has been a true inspiration, there are so many things I would like to have a go at. I could keep looking forever but really want to get down to it and make something, so I have found a cushion pattern I like and have collected the materials together. I have realised via the website that there is a really supportive community of patchworkers out there so hope to join in with some of that when I get underway. So there are no photos of my work to share with you, as I don't think a photo of my stash would be very inspirational!!
