That Patchwork Place $26.99
ISBN: 978-1-56477-980-9 (s/b, 96 pages)
At first glance the title of this book could be
off-putting, however beneath the cover is an
interesting and challenging book. The author
has put together a sampler quilt made up of a
variety of blocks, some of which the more
experienced quilter may recognise, others will be
unfamiliar. The diagrams are in colour with good
illustrations. The text is well written and clear
instructions are given with step by step details.
Some of the blocks use templates, some are
foundation pieced and others are rotary cut. Lisa
takes the reader through choosing and
preparing the fabrics; cutting; the sewing
techniques used; quilt assembly and finishing.
The blocks range from a simple triangle rotary
cut, known as Manna from Heaven to the more
complicated foundation pieced Hosanna.
Blocks measure 14in square and so are quite
manageable. The author has given a biblical
name for each block, but some readers may
recognise them under another name. This is a
well laid out book, both interesting and inspiring
with lots of possibilities to mix and match
designs. There is a pattern for a four block quilt
which would be a great start to try out your
favourite blocks, or if you feel adventurous you
can try out the twenty block sampler using all
the blocks. I am sure most quilters will find
something of interest in this book.
