Step into spring with some new home decorations this month, it doesn’t take long to make a cushion or a small wall hanging, they are great conversation pieces! Joanna O’ Neill’s "Floral Folk Art", and Katharine Guerrier’s "Star Cushions", are both two-for-one projects, each design comes in two variations, why not make one for you and one for a friend? You could also try Mandy Munroe’s contemporary table runner, "Spring Zing" and get to grips with her curved stack and slash leaf motif and bold fabrics. Or inject a bit of sparkle into your life with Sally McCollin’s "Glittering Fruits" wall hanging, a great treat and excuse to use some glitzy fabrics. Regan Purcell has come up with a simple yet ingenious interpretation of a hexagon design in "Sunflower Quilt", or you could grab a Jelly Roll and sew the lovely "Dream Big" quilt, an extract from ‘Simplify’ by Camille Roskelley. Greta Fitchett’s "Cake of the Month" series continues with a mouth watering selection of delicious looking cream cakes.
Gillian Cooper visited the International Quilt Festival in Houston last autumn and tells us about what she saw in "Wonders of Beauty" while Margaret McQuillen shares her experience of organising a large UK quilt show, and lets us roam backstage with a preview of "Quilts and Embroidery 2011". Lynne Adams is the Project Linus co-ordinator for Worcestershire, and she brings us a great insight into how are quilts are used in neo-natal units in "Quilting Matters: Project Linus". Lynne also tells us about incubator covers and how to make one for your local special care baby unit, see the pattern sheet for more details. Gillian Cooper examines a really interesting block this month, one with lots of alternative designs. To learn exactly how and why we “Rob Peter to Pay Paul”, turn to "Building Blocks".
