We're really excited about our cover project this month, Greta Fitchett's fantastic quilted cakes were a popular item at Festival of Quilts 2010, and you can now make your own tasty teatime goodies. Each month we will have a pattern for a new cake, in February we start the series with a scrumptious, calorie-free sponge cake slice. In our project pages, there are two great quilts. "Kitties Galore" by Hilary Gooding is made from the new Makower cats panel fabric, and Katharine Guerrier brings us another beautiful scrap quilt. You've also got a choice of two great cushion patterns. You can get decorative with Anja Townrow's machine embroidered "Fantasy Fish", or try a interesting new cushion shape with Sally McCollin's "Funky Berry". The wonderful Pat Stone helps you make some useful kitchen accessories in her quick and colourful "Cosy Comforts" project. Take a look at the contents page
to find out more.
There's lots of inspiration in our February features section. You'll be amazed by Carolyn Sinclair's story of her "Coats Thread Quilt" and Linzi Upton's fabulous quilted car cover has to be seen to be believed. We're out and about at the Sew 'n' Sews quilt exhibition at Dalgarven Mill, and you can see some of the quilts from the latest exhibitions at the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York. Gillian continues on her journey through the history of quilt blocks, and tells us about the Churn Dash block this month. There are also some handy tips on sewing by machine from Brother and Sally McCollin. You can win a brilliant Brother Innov-is 20 Limited Edition sewing machine, worth £299 in our great competition, see page 48 for the entry form.
