Our new January 2017 issue will be in the shops on 9th December 2016!
I cannot believe it is our first issue of 2017, last year seems to have whizzed by. As is traditional in my household, I have been having a new year sort out of my sewing supplies and have found a number of poor quilt tops, patiently waiting to be quilted. So I am planning to start off the year by finishing them. The only issue with this, and I am sure most of you will agree, is I will have to be disciplined as it is far too easy to get distracted by lovely new patterns and fabrics. Maybe once I get started I will reward myself with a little treat to keep up the momentum!
To get you inspired for the year ahead we have taken to the road with our features. First stop is the Open European Quilt
Championships, held in the Netherlands. In 2016 they celebrated their 20th anniversary and on page XX you can see a gallery of the winners. Going further afield, Sara Cook reports back on her first trip to the Korean Bojagi Forum. The combination of textiles and food makes it look like a trip of a lifetime. Staying nearer to home we have an interview with the Northumberland-based textile artist Mandy Pattullo, and in Let’s Visit we take a tour of the Shetland Isles.
As a fan of sewing machines I really enjoyed reading Helen Howes’ feature ‘Yes, I did this on a treadle’. We have an old hand-crank Singer at home which was found a few years ago by my husband out in the rain next to a bin. He knocked on the door to check he could take it, and then strapped it to his bike and cycled home. I think he was a bit miffed I was not delighted with this wet and rusty machine, but I did appreciate the gesture! It was fun stripping it, cleaning the parts, and then reassembling it back to working order. It is still not the smoothest running thing, but now lives on a sideboard in the living room wrapped in fairy lights.
