Midsomer Quilting is pleased to host ‘Here and Far’, a solo exhibition of work by Claire Passmore. Please join us on Friday May 1st, from 10 am, for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist.

In the exhibition, Claire presents two of her most recent series of art quilts that have been inspired by her twin homes, both here in Wiltshire and far away in South Africa. Over 30 quilts will be on display.

Claire’s distinctive style portrays events and scenery from her continually changing surroundings. As she travels she records her observations in sketchbooks, gathering together potential ideas and then uses them to inspire her quilts. The exhibition also includes a selection of these sketchbooks. Claire is also publishing a book, ‘Quilting Originals’ to coincide with the exhibition. In it she shares the ideas and strategies she uses when making her quilts in the hope that she will inspire others to create their own original work.

Claire trained as a Primary School teacher and spent 14 enjoyable years teaching in the UK and Poland. She subsequently worked for the University of Gloucestershire, mentoring and assessing student teachers. In 2006 she retired and now spends her time travelling and experimenting with cloth, thread, dye and paint and has been making quilts and other textile art since that time. She has made over 100 quilts and numerous 3D art pieces. Her work has been exhibited in the UK, USA, France and South Africa in museums, galleries and magazines. Her work is also in several private quilt collections.
