This quilt is made from a variety of 4 1/2 inch floral charm squares combined with a tone on tone background fabric. Designed, made, photographed and kindly shared by Brenda Dean.© Quilters Pty. Ltd. 2006
You can download a pdf copy of the original instructions for this project here, Friendship Flowers
The design centre of the quilt (not including the borders) measures 56 x 66 inches.
You can use the same design to make a wall hanging using smaller fabric squares.
Arrange your 4 1/2 inch fabric squares and floral triangles into five tonal groups: Dark, Medium dark, Medium, Medium light, Light
With right sides together and using a 1/4 inch seam, join the 60 background triangles to 60 of the assorted floral triangles along the long edge to give 60 half square triangles. Press the seams towards the darker side and trim each square to 4 1/2 inches. Join the remaining floral triangles in pairs, matching a light to a dark to give 12 half square triangles. Press the seams towards the darker side. Again these should be to 4 1/2 inches square. Following the layout diagram and again using a 1/4 inch seam, join the squares together in 22 rows as shown. Try to match the tones according to the diagram wherever possible. Join the rows together to create your quilt top “on point”
Trim the piece leaving 1/4 inch all round for seam allowances. (This will be 1/4 inch outside the points at the top and bottom) Add a border or borders as desired.
