Duck Egg Blues

Express yourself with this versatile technique of piecing a block.

My favourite colour used to be red and for years I used to dye pieces of my hair and accessorise with this colour. Then a few years ago something happened – I had a bit of a retro revival. I noticed my heart was quickening at the sight of vintage duck egg blues. My stash of light blues and pale mints was growing, and I bought a sewing machine from the 1950s in a charity shop that was duck egg blue. For this project I've pulled out a few of my favourite blue prints from my stash. Sketchbook quilts are a good way to try out some new techniques. I tried hand sewing half-hexagons using a full hexagon paper template and then catching the rest in the seam by machine. I also played with some split backgrounds. Have fun!
