A review of "Courtship Quilts - Inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers" by Janna L. Sheppard. Reviewed by Wendy Rankin.
The quilts featured in Janna L. Sheppards first book are inspired by the authors collection of antique language of the flowers books.
The early chapters cover fabric selection, colours, tools and supplies, patchwork, appliqué methods and quilt assembly and finishing. All the templates for the appliqué designs are included and illustrated in colour.
There are eleven projects, featuring many different flowers, foliage, fauna, fans and baskets. The combination of machine or hand appliqué, quick strip piecing and modern innovative borders adds fresh dimensions to traditionally themed quilts.
This is an interesting book with lots of new and historical information. It would be suitable for an experienced or a very ambitious new quilter.
