This November sees the first Big Craft Event at the Lincolnshire Showground, showcasing more than 80 of the region’s most skilled and original crafters. A pop-up cafe offering ‘All Day Afternoon Tea’ will give the chance to take a cake-filled break.

Only items made by the crafters themselves will be featured; nothing bought-in is allowed.  In addition, the person who has made the items displayed will also be there and, where possible, will be demonstrating their skills.  As all the crafters enjoy discussing their passion, people looking for a craft they can take up themselves will be very inspired!

Organiser Amy Claridge explains why she created this new event: “I fell in love with craft fairly recently and now cannot get over the amount of skilled crafters there are in the area – Lincolnshire is full of talent and I wanted to showcase it on a large scale. I set up this event and it filled very quickly so it will be returning in 2014 but larger. I hope this event will be enjoyed by Lincoln people but also that people will travel from further afield as this event becomes a popular annual fixture.”

The timing of the event is perfect for Christmas shopping. “I have noticed that increasingly people want to give a gift that they have either made themselves, or that they have bought from a local person,” explains Amy. “It’s all about individuality, thought and appreciation of skill. A lot of people I speak to don’t want items that have been mass-produced overseas; they are looking for unusual things made by an interesting person. “

You can expect a wide variety of choice at the Big Craft Event. “I choose the crafters carefully,” concludes Amy “ensuring that not only will there be a fantastic choice but a wide range of tastes will be catered for with both traditional and contemporary crafters booked in. You can expect to see textiles, glass (fused, stained and mosaic), jewellery (silver, beaded, wire etc), art (all mediums),  photography, knitting, crochet, cards, toys, ceramics and pottery,  driftwood, recycled home accessories, caned chairs & upholstery, clothes, candles, wood turners,  alpaca wool knitting, tweeds, soap, handbags and purses etc etc. From stunning artwork to intricate sewing, from beautiful pottery to adorable toys there will be an amazing choice at this first ‘Big Craft Event’”.
