The 20th Edition of the Open European Quilt Championships will take place at the MECC in Maastricht, from the 20th to 23rd October 2016.
This special Anniversary Edition will see 140 competitors from all across the world come together, with each of them submitting one quilt into the championship competition. An accompanying exhibition will showcase 10 guest collections from some of the world's best textile artists. In addition, 18 guest collections from the winners of previous championship competitions will be on display, and the winners will also be present to discuss their work in person. In total, 700 quilts will be showcased throughout the Anniversary Edition, with a Bernina B570 sewing machine to the value of € 2,999 on offer as the 1st Prize for the winning quilt.
For the second time, the Open European Quilt Championships will be held at the MECC Maastricht, where over 50 stores from across Europe are brought together under one roof. Throughout the event there will be a total of 34 workshops where participant can learn about a range of textile techniques. All of the workshops can also be easily combined with a visit to the full exhibition. Asides from this, there will also be four full-day workshops, including one by Gyleen Fitzgerald, the avid quilter and writer best known for her inspirational book "Trash to Treasure: Pineapple Quilts”. Gyleen is dedicated to promoting a modern spirit within the traditional quilt world, and she will also feature her own guest collection at the Open European Quilt Championships.
