Please post any pictures of quilts you make for any of our "Helping Hands" appeals here. We'd love to see what you come up with and would like to encourage everyone to contribute to these worthy causes. At the moment we're supporting Journal Quilts for Alzheimers, Linus and the Welsh Dragon appeal, but if you know of any other charities who would appreciate our help, please let us know.

This is also the place for any discussions about how to organise quilt making for charity, and you are welcome to start your own threads for individual causes if you wish.

I'm really looking forward to receiving Davina's quilt for Project Alzheimer's.  When I started this project in May 2007 I was hoping to get 100 quilts to exhibit and sell. The total so far is 173 and growing!

The latest offerings have come from Chicago, Dorset and Shropshire - oh yes and Australia!  Quite an international gathering of quilting.

I have thanked everyone individually but here is a public big THANK YOU to everyone who has been so generous with their time and creativity.

I do hope that as many of you who can will come to the show and bring your purses ready to buy.

An update for you all on Project Alzheimers.

I have now received over 300 quilts for this exhibition. What a great lot you quilters all are!

Does anyone know of a good charity for the elderly. I am making several scrap lap quilts and would like them to go to the elderly as quite a bit of the fabric was given to me by an old lady who could no longer quilt. I live in West Sussex and would particularly like a local charity or one which has branches all over.

Hi Lea, Help the Aged or Age concern spring to mind, but you could also try your local council or library as they often have details of local charities.

A tip a friend gave me was to make them like a quillow with a pocket on the back to fold into when not in use. Apparently this is brilliant for putting your feet in to keep warm!

A reader followed this suggestion I think to make one for someone in a wheelchair.

Hello Lea

You might like to think of a local residential home with a dementia unit as the recipient of your quilts. Or any other residential home as quilts are wonderful talking points with the ladies and gents who live in these homes.  I have made many for my mother's home and they are constantly admired by the residents and visitors.  Your local Alzheimer's Society will have a list of homes in your area and I am sure would be only too willing to help with information.

Someone has asked if they could use my Heirloom Sampler worksheets (not Singing Garden) in order for them to teach a group of 10 at a Helping Hands place. She said it was a charity. Can someone explain as I've not heard of it before.
