Sew Happy Quilt-Along Guidelines

In January we started our Quilt-Along (QAL) with Mandy Monroe. For those of you who have not taken part in a QAL before, here are some general guidelines to help you start up a QAL to make the quilt.

My centre block. Not as wild colours as I usually do! The lights are pink and white and the seed heads are lilac. I had to redo two of the HSTs. In my head I thought I had worked out the correct orientation of the seed heads but I got it wrong. I am one of those boring people who can't live with things not being in the same direction. Looking forward to starting Part 2 and using some of the lovely swap fabrics.

Lovely Margaret, I really like the seed head fabric.

I have directional fabric too, and I was too tired to make sure it all faced the same way today, so it's a job for this week now.

Part 2 finished and I went on a bit more! I am auditioning the dark squares for the other two corners whilst waiting for part 3 because at the moment I don't think they will work too well with the other fabrics.

Well done Cathy! I can see you'd added quite a lot of scraps to yours, it looks great.

Wow, I feel like I'm falling behind - been away this weekend in Yorkshire so no chance to sew. Margaret I love the dusky purple colour you've chosen and Cathy the scrappy fabrics are really effective, it's going to be so bright and colourful.

Luckily I did have chance to get to CraftsandQuilts for my mooch this afternoon and came away with my dark choice and a second light one to compliment something from my stash. Needless to say that's not all I came away with... backing fabric for my spare bed quilt (the top is made, minus borders) and a selection of cream and white tone-on-tones for my hexagon quilt. Oh, and one or two little bits that I just couldn't resist!

Now I have my fabric I can crack on this week and should have some blocks to show by the weekend.

I'm a bit disgruntled with my yellow this evening, so sorry if it's putting everyone else off too. Shall I send something else?

If it's not too late, I don't mind if you leave it out...

That's lovely Cathy. More my usual sort of colour palette. Like your fabrics too Lexy. I reckon this design would look good in Batiks too.

What's wrong with your yellow Katy? It's like little sprinkles of sunshine in my quilt top. I've got plans for it in the outer border too - if it will work when the instructions arrive.

I agree with Margaret about the yellow Katy, it adds a nice little pop of contrast. I did audition a few darker yellow/gold fabrics yesterday but because my light choice from the stash had more blue in it than yellow I decided to go with blue. I'm really happy with all the fabrics.
