This show will shine a light on work made by people as they lived through America's civil rights struggles, often in conditions of utter poverty. The exhibition will include quilts made by generations of rural women in Gee's Bend, Alabama - described by a critic in New York as ‘some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced’.
