Welcome to the March issue of Popular Patchwork!
With spring around the corner, a quick fix of bright and beautiful projects was a seasonal must! ‘Modern Retro’ is a well-rehearsed trend that pops up frequently in fashion and interiors, and was the perfect springboard for our talented designers to launch their designs from. Taking inspiration from the clean shapes and bold designs of the 1950s and ’60s, the array of projects that adorn the following pages are nothing short of stunning!
This month’s cover star is the deceptively simple Buckle Up Quilt. With the clue in the title, Mandy Munroe has taken the unlikely inspiration from a belt buckle to create this beautiful quilt. Alice Garret, of Alice Caroline, brings her own take on Modern Retro with her Sweet Liberty quilt, while Judith Hollies makes a bold statement and embraces a ’60s vibe with her oversized drunkard’s path design, Hippy Blush. If, like many of our readers, you have been joining in with Stuart Hillard’s Mystery Quilt project, you will by now be aware that this issue reveals the long-awaited finished quilt! Despite having seen the final design when I commissioned the project back in May last year, I was still filled with excited anticipation waiting for the quilt to arrive and was thrilled by the result. We unveil the last piece of the puzzle on page 40.
And finally, turn to page 46 for this month’s Block of the Month. Bringing this series to a close with the Bow Tie Block, don’t miss your chance to win the Bernina 350PE sewing machine with our fabulous competition!
Once again, with so many projects to create, I will leave you to enjoy this gorgeous issue, and as always, don’t forget to share your own patchwork journeys with us.
